Terms of Service
The rules of the road.
Last updated · 1 June 2026
The short version: use Lumen to make your films. Don't break the law with it. Your screenplay and production data belong to you. Lumen is provided “as is” during beta. We can change things, and we'll tell you when we do.
1. Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) form a binding agreement between you and MindMade® (“MindMade”, “we”, “our”) governing your use of Lumen, including the website at lumen.film, the web application, and any related services (together, the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. The service
Lumen is a pre-production platform for filmmakers. It can read your screenplay in your browser and helps you produce breakdowns, schedules, call sheets, wardrobe and props lists, department tasks, and related production documents. During beta, features may be added, changed, or removed without notice, and we may place reasonable limits on use.
3. Your account
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for any activity that happens under your account. Notify us at hello@mindmade.co if you suspect unauthorised access.
4. Your content
You retain all rights to the material you bring to Lumen — your scripts, breakdowns, schedules, call sheets, contact lists, and any other production data (“Your Content”). MindMade claims no ownership or licence over Your Content beyond what is strictly necessary to provide the Service to you (for example, storing the breakdown you built so you can see it the next time you log in).
We do not use Your Content to train machine-learning models, ours or anyone else's.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to infringe anyone's intellectual property or privacy.
- Upload screenplays or other content you do not have the right to use.
- Use the Service to produce or coordinate unlawful, harmful, defamatory, or harassing material.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, resell, or sub-licence the Service, except to the extent permitted by applicable law.
- Interfere with the operation of the Service or circumvent any technical limits on your account.
6. Beta software
Lumen is currently in beta. That means: features may change, data migrations may occur, the Service may be unavailable from time to time, and bugs may affect accuracy. You should not rely on the Service as the sole record of critical production information during beta. Keep backups.
7. Plans, billing, and cancellation
Lumen offers a free plan and paid subscription plans (currently “Indie” and “Studio”). The features and current prices of each plan are shown in the app before you subscribe. Prices are stated in US dollars unless noted otherwise and are exclusive of any taxes, which you are responsible for where they apply.
Billing and automatic renewal. Paid plans are billed in advance on a recurring monthly cycle through our payment processor, Stripe. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price, and your payment method is charged for each renewal, until you cancel.
Cancellation. You can cancel at any time from the billing panel in your account (the Stripe customer portal). When you cancel, your plan stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for and does not renew after that. There is no cancellation fee.
Refunds. Except where a refund is required by applicable law — including non-excludable consumer guarantees such as those under the Australian Consumer Law — payments are non-refundable, and we do not provide refunds or credits for partial billing periods, unused time, or features you chose not to use.
Price changes. We may change subscription prices or what a plan includes. If a change affects your plan, we will give you at least 30 days notice before it takes effect at your next renewal. If you do not agree, you can cancel before the change applies; continuing on a paid plan after it takes effect means you accept the new price.
Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, we may retry the charge and may suspend or downgrade paid features until payment succeeds. Your data is retained while you resolve the payment, subject to the retention periods in our Privacy Policy.
The free plan is provided at no cost and may carry usage limits (for example, on the number of active productions). We may change the limits or availability of the free plan and will give reasonable notice of material changes.
8. Intellectual property
All rights in the Service itself — including its software, design, brand elements, the Lumen word mark and aperture logo, and all accompanying content we create — belong to MindMade or our licensors. These Terms do not grant you any ownership of the Service.
9. Third-party services
The Service integrates with third-party providers (hosting, authentication, payment, email delivery, and messaging delivery). Your use of those third-party services is subject to their own terms. We are not responsible for the content or practices of third-party websites linked from within Lumen.
10. Warranty disclaimer
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that the output of the intelligent parser will be accurate, complete, or fit for any particular production. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, MindMade is not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenues, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of these Terms is capped at the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim or (b) US$100.
12. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially violate these Terms or if we are required to do so by law. On termination, sections 4, 8, 10, 11, 13, and 14 survive.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll notify you in-app before the changes take effect and update the “last updated” date above. Continued use of the Service after that date means you accept the revised Terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, without regard to its conflict of law rules. You and MindMade® submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales, except where mandatory consumer protection law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings elsewhere.
